MBA Games

About the Games

The MBA Games is a 3-day annual event, organized entirely by students, that brings participants together to network and build relationships while competing in a series of academic, athletic and spirit competitions.

In less than a month, 25 of our Telfer MBA students along with close to 600 MBA students from over 20 schools across the country will meet up at Ryerson University in Toronto to compete in the 2019 MBA Games.

This year, the 2019 MBA Games has partnered with the Canadian Council for Refugees, a national non-profit umbrella organization committed to the rights and protection of refugees and other vulnerable migrants in Canada and around the world.

On January 2, 2017, 16 of Telfer School of Management’s MBA students travelled to Vancouver Island University to compete in the MBA Games against 18 other Canadian universities. Despite being one of the smaller teams present, they competed vigorously and won multiple titles, landing second place in overall academic rankings, with a second place win in the Finance case competition and third place in the HR case competition and took home a third place win in dodgeball. Congratulations to the 2017 Telfer team!

The 2016 MBA Games were held in Toronto, on January 2nd-4th, 2016.

On January 2nd, a team of Telfer MBA students traveled to Hamilton, Ontario to compete in the 2015 MBA Games. The Games are a great opportunity to meet and compete with MBA students from across the country, and Telfer was well-represented amongst tomorrow’s leaders in Business.

Telfer’s MBA gamers put their best feet forward during their dance at the opening ceremonies: showing off their passion with salsa-like moves as a unified group, inspiring achievements with on-stage board-breaking, and creating a sense of community with their coordinated team effort.

Students competing in academic case competitions seized the opportunity to demonstrate their business expertise in finance, human resources, marketing, and strategy. Although the teams didn’t move on to the final rounds of the competitions, each group felt confident in their analyses and are ready to take their experiences and acquired skills back to the classrooms at the University of Ottawa and into the broader world of work.

The Telfer participants also displayed their skills in teamwork throughout the various sports competitions over the weekend. This was particularly evident in their succeeding in moving through the first elimination round in basketball. The team rallied together to help one another learn new skills and develop strategies against some particularly challenging and experienced groups. Many Telfer students were playing these competitive sports for the first time, and their positivity and willingness to take up a new challenge displayed their venturesome spirits.

The Games also included a number of spirit activities and networking events that helped the Telfer participants build stronger bonds with one another and with competitors from other Canadian programs. From meet-and-greets to karaoke, and from dinner parties to dance parties, Telfer’s MBA students were stellar representatives of the Telfer School of Business, displaying excellence in teamwork, leadership, and engagement.
