FAQ – Answers to frequently asked questions from (potential) research participants

As a participant in the research the managers will have a 3-hour workshop to take part in, 2 telephone interviews of 30 minutes each as well as 4 questionnaires that will take 20 to 30 minutes each to complete. These activities will be spread over a 12-month period. The rest of the time will depend on the active offer interventions that you will want to implement and how you will implement them. The active offer interventions that you are going to implement will be those that you consider useful for improving the services on your unit, so this is not solely time dedicated to research.
This study has gone through multiple Ethics Review Boards to ensure that your data will be kept anonymous and confidential. Before you choose to participate, you will have an opportunity to read a consent form. The form will explain all the things the researchers have committed to do to protect you and your data. Have a look at the Ethics page for our current certificates.
Address your questions to your project coordinator; see Team and contact information. If you have concerns you can contact the appropriate person listed on the Ethics page.

The tasks are to ensure that research participants (managers, unit personnel and patients) can participate in the research activities. For recruitment the goal is to invite managers, their unit personnel and patients who go through these unit to participate in the research and sign the consent forms. Data collection involves ensuring the presence of managers in a training room for the workshop and helping to coordinate telephone interviews. For managers, unit personnel and patients the task is to collect their names and email addresses. For patients who prefer a paper questionnaire, it is a matter of giving it to them and collecting it afterwards.
We estimate that the project will require an investment of 3 blocks of approximately 40 hours (120 hours) over 12 months. The first block will take place in the first two months of the project. A second block will take place about six months after the start of the project and will last one month. A third block will take place about 11 months after the start of the project and will last one month.
The project will be approved by the Research Ethics Board of the Research Institute of Montfort Hospital and the University of Ottawa. If you require a local approval, we will be pleased to provide you with all of our documentation that served as the basis for the approvals we received. You will be able to forward them to the appropriate authorities in your institution for expedited ethics application. Also See Ethics for our current certificates.
