Profile: Born and raised in Guelph Ontario, Canada. Will developed a passion for business and by the time he graduated from High School he was the president of his local DECA chapter and has taken every business course at his local High School. He desire to move to a big city, but to also to be far enough from his parents house to justify living in residence, led him to pursue a degree in finance at the University of Ottawa. He found the finance laboratory on nhis first day of FROSH week and joined the Telfer Capital Fund as soon as he was eligible.

In his time at the TCF, he worked as a Junior Analyst in both the Tech and Materials Portfolio. During which, he was on the team for the revaluations of both Constellations Software (TSX: CSU) and Cascades (TSX:CAS). He then moved on to the position of Senior Materials Analyst where he pitched Cameco Corp. (TSC CCO) to the fund and revalued fund holding Wheaton Precious Metals (TSX:WPM). He then moved up to be the Portfolio Manager of the Materials sector and revalued fund holding DowDuPont prior to its three way split into Corteva (NYSE: CTVA), Dow (NYSE:DOW), DuPont (NYSE:DD). He has also taken on some additional roles in the Telfer Capital Fund, including Head of the Macroeconomic Committee and Head of New Analyst Education. His responsibilities were doubled in 2019 when the Materials sector and Industrials sector were combined.  In his free time he enjoys swimming, rock climbing, sailing, horsebacking riding, and hiking.

Rushika Khatkar

Status: Portfolio Manager, Diversified

4th Year Bachelor of Commerce, Option in Finance

Profile: Rushika grew up in Winnipeg before moving to Ottawa. She is currently in her final year of the Bachelor of Commerce Program with a specialization in Finance. She joined the Capital Markets Program as an analyst in the consumer discretionary sector.

Over this past summer, she had the opportunity to work in Montreal at IJW & Co as an investment banking analyst. She has also previously completed internships in both the public and non-profit sector.

Rushika is also heavily involved in the Telfer School of Management as a member of the JDC finance team and as a director of finance in the Women in Management Network. In her free time, Rushika enjoys traveling and reading.

Tyler Morton

Status: Portfolio Manager, Real Estate

4th Year Bachelor of Commerce, Option in Finance

Profile: In his hometown of Ottawa, Tyler attends the Telfer School of Management with a specialization in finance. Through participation in case competitions such Jeux du Commerce Central, Inter-Collegiate Business Competition, and the Telfer Internal Case Competition, Tyler gained experience and exposure to the finance field – and has gravitated towards this segment of business since. Along the way, he was able to connect with a handful of members that, at the time, were enrolled in the Capital Markets Program, and the Telfer Capital Fund. Under their recommendations, Tyler made it a goal to join the Fund – as it seemed like one of the best ways to streamline a career into capital markets and high finance out of uOttawa. Tyler joined the TCF and CMP in October of 2017, as the Junior Analyst in the telecommunications sector. Since then, he progressed through the Analyst and Portfolio Manager roles within telecom, before making the transition over to Real Estate in September of 2019. In his spare time, Tyler enjoys playing euchre, doing puzzles, and following tennis.

Jiacheng Tan

Status: Portfolio Manager, TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications)

4th Year Bachelor of Commerce in Finance

ProfileBorn and raised in Jiangsu Province, China, Jiacheng’s solid academic backgrounds and interest in Finance led him pursuing a Finance degree at University of Ottawa. He joined DECA and Telfer Finance Society, taking on a few case competitions while networking with industry professionals during his first two years at University.

In his first year at TCF, he mainly looked into and presented three companies for re-evaluation/pitch (NYSE: ALE, TSE: RCI.B, TSE: QBR.B). Additionally, he assisted with the attribution analysis and reporting of the style factors of the overall TCF portfolio. He strives to continue strengthening his financial modelling and coding skills, helping the fund secure more robust performance this year. While he is not working, Jiacheng enjoys watching good comedy shows, listening to some classical music, and managing his own investment portfolio at home.

Neil Withers

Status: Portfolio Manager, Financial Institutions Group 

Profile: Originally from Espanola, Ontario, Neil is a fourth-year Commerce student specializing in Finance at the Telfer School of Management.  Within the Telfer Capital Fund, he the Portfolio Manager in the Financial Institution Group sector. Neil’s interest in finance grew while working in the accounting department of the Domtar Espanola division during secondary school.  This past summer, he completed an internship with the legal firm Smart & Biggar. Neil looks to gain more exposure to capital markets by pursuing an internship in the field this year. Outside of academics, Neil enjoys keeping fit, following and playing sports, as well as enjoying the outdoors through camping, fishing and hunting.
