The following seminar is hosted by the Telfer Health Transformation Exchange<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Learning Health Systems Modeling Laborator<\/a>y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a well-known delay between successful research results that demonstrate better clinical outcomes and their application in practice. Coupling research, care delivery, and knowledge transfer activities within ongoing learning cycles \u2013 known as learning health systems (LHS) \u2013 could address this gap. This seminar will present essential elements for the successful clinical implementation of LHS, using examples where technological and analytical opportunities are being exploited while being mindful of ethical, legal and social aspects. Drawing from a recent project on mortality prediction for hospitalized patients, Dr. \u00c9thier will\u00a0illustrate how framing such initiatives as research projects vs. learning cycles impacts their clinical utility and patient results. Clinicians, researchers and managers will be stimulated to advocate for elements of this approach in their environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speaker for this event Dr. Jean-Fran\u00e7ois \u00c9thier<\/a>, Scientific Co-director of the\u00a0Interdisciplinary Research Group in Health Informatics (GRIIS)<\/a>, \u00a0Attending Physician, Internal Medicine Department, Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS), and a leader for the technological development of the\u00a0Health Data Research Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Dr. \u00c9thier’s talk will be a panel discussion and a Q&A.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
